Liverpool Film Academy

Harry Tulley
I began at The Liverpool Film Academy with a work experience placement shortly after graduating from the BA (Hons) Sound Technology course at LIPA in 2016. Since then, I have worked as a Dubbing Mixer on a number of factual and drama projects including 'Broken', 'Nail Bar Boys', and 'Moving On'. In 2020, I was also Dubbing Mixer for the BBC single drama 'Anthony' which was written by Jimmy McGovern and directed by Terry McDonough. My work on this film saw me receive a nomination for the BAFTA Craft Emerging Talent: Fiction award in 2021. The Liverpool Film Academy and now LA Productions has not only provided me with the opportunities to work alongside renowned television writers and directors but also an understanding of the range of disciplines behind the camera.

Hannah Melia
My name is Hannah Melia, I graduated from Edge Hill University with a degree in Film and Television production, and during this time I was able to do some work experience at Liverpool Film Academy in 2016 before joining full time at LA in 2018. I’ve been able to expand my knowledge in editing since working as an accredited Assistant Editor on many of LA’s shows such as the BAFTA nominated Moving On and Anthony before having the opportunity to be the Assistant Editor on the critically acclaimed Time. Through my hard work over the years I've been given the chance to work as a Video Editor, with my first editing credit on Moving On series 11 & 12 before working on LA Factual’s Nail Bar Boys and LA’s new Channel 5 thriller, Compulsion. I have grown so much in my time at LA both personally, growing in confidence and professionally learning how to become a better editor through working with a great team and individuals in the industry, I cannot wait to see what the future holds..

Adam Powell-Evans
Hi there! I’m Adam Powell-Evans and I’m a dubbing mixer for LA Post. I have a degree from SAE Institute in Sound Technology as well as a foundation certificate in Sound Technology from the Liverpool Institute for performing arts (LIPA). I started working for LA Productions through the Liverpool Film Academy in September 2015 while I was finishing off my degree. Since being hired full time in April 2016 I have been privileged to work on many projects first of all as an assistant dubbing editor and then later getting many credits as a dubbing mixer for as Andy and the Band for CBBC and BBC’s Moving On. Since starting at LA I have acquired a wealth of skills such as dialogue editing, foley editing and recording, SFX editing, sound design, ADR recording as well as being able to mix all of these elements together at the mix stage. My time at LA Post has taught me so much and I can’t wait to see what projects I get to work on in the future!

Emma Turner
I have worked for the company for four years and in that time have taken on various roles within the production team. I have been both on set and office based experience working recently as a production secretary and coordinator. During my time with the academy and at LA I have been able to observe how a project grows and develops from the early script stage to screen. Alongside working at LA I has been involved in the Young Everyman and Playhouse directors course and I have now started my own theatre company, working as a director for the stage. Liverpool Film Academy and LA Productions have provided me with the skills and most importantly the confidence to explore different areas of the creative industry.

Alex Beards
Hi! Alex Beards here! I am an Editor and I started as a work experience trainee way back in 2014 and was fortunate enough to be given a full time position at LA Productions in the spring of 2015 after graduating from Liverpool John Moores in Film Studies where I found an extreme passion for Editing. Since I started I have been able to hone my skills in editing, technical work, picture enhancement and learn so much and earn the opportunity to work across many different broadcast dramas in many different roles. I have worked as an Assistant Editor on LA’s excellent BAFTA nominated Broken and Moving On, worked as a Digital Image Technician on blockbuster TV shows ‘The Ipcress File & Time, and I’ve reached my goal of being an accredited broadcast Editor on Moving On and Clink. I’ve learned so much through being at LA and have become technically confident and talented in many different roles and areas. I hope to continue to edit in the future and work on many more dramas.

Aimee Cross
I started in September 2021 and have already learned so much. In my short time here so far, I was Production Runner for the channel 5 Drama Compulsion, whilst also participating in work on set and briefly as Base Runner. Since then I have been working as Production Coordinator in the factual department for an exciting new BBC documentary on the UK Jazz Scene, and have also gained experience operating cameras and sound equipment. After a tough few years for the creative industries, I finally have optimism and a seat at the table that The Liverpool Academy has given me."

Despite immense talent and skills in their fields now, each of our graduates arrived at the film academy's door with little to no prior experience in their field. With commissions and awards a-plenty among our family members at the Liverpool Film Academy and LA Productions, why not be the next name on this list?
